Gagen, Jeffrey E. age 54, died peacefully on February 28, 2007 after a long, courageous four year battle with lung cancer. Beloved husband of 30 years to Mary Jo (nee O'Rourke), loving father of Jeffrey (Holly) and Thomas, dearest and doting daddy to his little girl Julie, loving "Papa Peachie" and best buddy of Madison Ann Gagen, devoted son of the late Earl and the late Bernice (nee Sewnig) Gagen, dear brother of Robert (Georgette), Sandra (Andrew) McCarthy, Lynn (George) Ternand, William, Donna Jeziorny, Debra Coady, Peter (Maureen) and the late Judith (Mike) Opoka, brother-in-law of Maureen (William) Hathaway and the late Jack (the late Jean) O'Rourke and Rev. Thomas O'Rourke, O.M.I., son-in-law of the late Leo J. and Josephine Clarke, best friend and BBQ buddy of Joseph Pirelli, lifelong working buddy and cherished friend of Robert Campbell, fond godfather of Scott Gagen, Michael Ternand and Katrina Pirelli, a loving cousin, uncle and nephew of many, and a good and true friend to many more. Jeff was the favorite nephew of Loretta Hammer. He placed family above all else and his hand shake made you his friend for life in good times and bad. He was a lifelong resident of Canaryville; a proud member of the Flags Club; a southside fan of the future 2007 World Champion Chicago Cubs. Jeff was also a proud and loyal member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #399. His sons are following in his footsteps. Funeral Monday, 9:45 a.m., from Thomas McInerney's Sons Funeral Home, 4635 S. Wallace St., (46th Place at McInerney's corners), to St. Gabriel Church for Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. Visitation Sunday, 2 to 9 p.m. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery. 773-268-0703.
