In searching for my Gages in Texas(including the dad of my Thomas William Gage {1860 TX}), I have found quite a few bits and pieces of most of the other Gages here during the mid-1800's.This is a long shot for you, but it seemed to have some of the names you felt might be clues to your search.(I have also discovered lots of misleading census errors, poor quality of writing to interpret, etc., so I'm going to put a question mark (?) when I suspect there are errors in the following census data that I have in my notes.)
Bastrop County, Texas 1860 Census p. 288 on microfilm:
Jessy J. Gage M 44(TX ?)(Probably Jesse)
Martha A."F 41"?
Lucinda E."F 14"
Permelia E. "F 11"
Ruth"F9"
Giueon"M4" (Julian? or ??)
A.D. HoiggM24GA
Kate R. HaysF13TX
John M. HaysM11"
(I doubt that Jessy and Martha were born in Texas but the others are probably correct. The G____ name was impossible to be certain just what had been written, but it could be closer to an unfamiliar Indian name than anything I could imagine. I hope these are the parents and some of the siblings of your William Warren Gage. Good Luck! Please let me know if you think he's yours or not; just curious and have a strange feeling we may have a link somewhere.(You see, my ggg-grfather, David Gage (1796) married a Cherokee Indian, Lucy Fish, my ggg-grmother. Additionally, the names William, Thomas, Wilson, and Lucy are another common thread.)
