William Gage, Rutherford Co., NC etc.
I am looking for any and all information anyone has on William Gage, son of David Gage of NY/NJ and Rutherford County, NC, and Esther Shipman. The information I have is that William was born in the 1760's or so, moved with his family to NC.
He (I assume it is he) appears once as "The Speaker of the House of the short-lived state of Franklin -1784- under John Sevier, according to John Preston Arthur.
Then it appears that William moved to or remained in, depending on how one looks at it, the state of Tennesse.
I also have, later, in the War of 1812, a John Gage on
Muster Roll of the 2nd Regiment of TN Militia 1814-1815 Franklin County TN
"Note:Below is a list of members of the Tennessee Militia whose names
are common to Franklin Co., TN.
:John Gage, Private."
Does anyone know what became of William? Who were his descendants? Was John Gage one his sons?
I guess Hannah gage was his daughter, but were there other children?
Thanks!
