Israel B Gafford was my GG-Grandfather. He and wife Amelia are buried in the Owen Cemetery near Abbeville, LaFayette Co, Mississippi. His second wife Sarah Wilburn may also be in that cemetery. Israel was in his ninties when he died in 1916 as I recall.

Somewhere in my records is a copy of his war record and pension application. I got this record by finding him in the Federal Archives in Atlanta and sending for his records. I remember that he was injured at the Battle of Vicksburg where he was occupied by the CSA Army as a Teamster. He states that he lost the vision in one eye as a result of injuries. I believe that he never returned to service after that time.

He was awarded a pension for his services, and the application makes for lively reading. Hope this helps.
