The Mennonite Gaede/Goede etc. came in the 1700s.
Mine were Goedecker, but also spelled with umlaut, and sometimes spelled (misspelled) in official documents and census a Gaede or Goede. Heinrich came in 1850 (November). I think his wife and children died in a cholera or typoid epidemic in Hannover. Anyway, he came alone. He was a watchmaker, and lived in Jersey City, married the widow of a brewer, did quite well. There's never been an indication he left anyone behind.
