Old Blisland Parish in New Kent
I'm slow to learn this, but all who trace from William & Mary Gadd(e)y, New Kent county, VA -- i.e., Thomas, Sherwood, George, (a William?), and their sisters -- may be interested to know that, in 2001, the Chesapeake Corporation (West Point, VA) transferred the site of the (1703) Blisland Parish Upper Church, known as Warreneye, Wahrani, "One Eye," and other phonetic renderings of the name to New Kent County as part of the 138 acre Warreneye Nature Trail, which has been enhanced, marked (newly blazed), and featured in trail and hiking guides. In 2003 the county (as part of its comprehensive plan and in light of the half dozen or so alternative renderings of the name) officially changed the spelling to Wahrani (consistent with official spelling to of swamp to the south) as more reflective of its Rappahannock Indian origins. "Google" Wahrani and related for details and map.
(The "Gaddy Book," "That Our Names May Be Written," describes and elaborates on the site, which stands on an elevation beside the colonial era road from Eltham to Williamsburg.)
During this same period, seven years ago, New Kent commenced to establish "sister" ties with Kent in England, some details of which are also posted on the Internet.
