After researching this line for some time, I have come to the possibility that Benjamin Thomas Gaddy and Rex Alexander were not brothers but possibly cousins. In the 1880 U S Census, Benjamin Thomas Gaddy lists his father and mother both being born in N.C. Rex, on the other hand, lists his father being born in TN and mother from SC. In this same census, Rex has someone living next to him named John Gaddy with father from TN and mother from SC as well. This makes me believe that Rex and John were actually brothers and not siblings to Benjamin Thomas. Although I did hear, in my younger years, that Benjamin Thomas' daughter married Rex's grandson (thru Rex's son John Calhoun). In the above mentioned census, Benjamin lived in Bethel (Wilcox County, AL) and Rex and John in Lower Peachtree (Wilcox County, AL). Let me know if you agree or disagree. AL
