Looking for information on Lewis J. Gaddis listed on the 1850 census for Talladega Co., AL.

Talladega Co., AL. 1850 census, dated 1850 Dec. 3, Microfilm #M432-15, stamped pg. #454B, lines #22 - #25.

hh #1450 - #1489, Talladega District.

Lewis Gaddis 24 m w Laborer GA.
Georgi Ann Gaddis 26 f w GA.
Mintora R. Gaddis 4 f w AL.
Elizabeth Rinner 18 f w GA.

It is possible that Lewis was a timber speculator. Family known to have been in Talladega/Randolph/Calhoun areas.

Lewis J. Gaddis purchased the following land:

40.21 acres SESW Twp. 17S Range 6E Sec. 12 (SE quarter of the SW quarter).
80 acres S1/2SE Twp. 17S Range 6E Sec. 12 (this is a Half of a quarter which would equal approx. 80 acres).
40.52 acres NESE Twp. 17S Range 6E Sec. 11 (NE quarter of the SE quarter).

Land purchases appear to be approx. 30-36 miles East of the Huntsville Meridian in the Northern part of Talladega Co. approx. 2 miles South of the Southernmost Calhoun Co. line.

Lewis J. Gaddis apparently died ca. 1859/1860 (died aft. 1-1-1859 but bef. 6-29-1860).

Lewis' Widow listed Calhoun Co., AL. 1860 census.

Calhoun Co., AL. 1860 census, dated 1860 June 29, Microfilm #M653_4, written pg. #56, lines #17 - #21.

hh #361 - #361, Ranges 8 & 9, Oxford Post Office.

Ella Jones 39 f w RE$200 PP$75 SC.
Robert P. Jones 5 m w AL
George Gaddis 39 f w GA. (this is how she was listed).
Roselean Gaddis 13 f w AL.
Wm. L. Gaddis 6 m w AL.

Mintora married 1.) Clark Berry Stewart in Calhoun Co., AL. on 5-1-1864 (He was listed as C. B. Stewart and she was listed as Rosanna Gaddis). They migrated to Hamilton and Erath Cos.,TX. Clark died in Erath Co., TX. 4-28-1891 and Mintora married 2.) Daniel Boone Miller in Erath Co., TX. 1-16-1895 (He was listed as D. B. Miller and she was listed as Mrs. Rosa Stewart). Mintora Roselean/Rosanna (Gaddis) Stewart/Miller was born 4/14/1846 in AL. and died 10/24/1927 in Erath Co., TX., buried Russell Chapel Cemetery.

William Lewis Gaddis married Dorcas Elizabeth "Eliza" Robinson in Hamilton Co., TX. 8-27-1876. They stayed in Hamilton Co. until 1884/1885 then moved to Erath Co., TX. where they lived until 1891/1892. They then moved to the Indian Territory, Chickasaw Nation, around Byars in present McClain Co., OK. In 1900 they were in Pottawatomi Co., OK. and in 1908 they moved to Cement, Caddo Co., OK. where they lived 1908-1939. William Lewis Gaddis was born 8-20-1854 Roanoke, Randolph Co., AL. died 11-21-1930 Cement, Caddo Co., OK. Dorcas Elizabeth "Eliza" (Robinson) Gaddis was born 2-9-1859 Springfield, Greene Co., MO. died 10/22/1939 Cement, Caddo Co., OK. Both buried I. O. O. F. Cemetery, Cement, Caddo Co., OK.

Looking for any information on the above Lewis J. Gaddis and any confirmation of Lewis' wife's maiden name (there is a possibility that she married a Bowman after 1860).

Any help appreciated. Jan Lawson.
