Hello, Richard,
It's good to come across another cousin. I'm one of the Smiths in question who traces back to William Smythe b. abt 1405.
You were helpful in telling cousin Harold: "Thomas Smith b. 1697 Hopewell Twp., Hunterton Co., NJ d. 1772 Rowan Co., NC m. Rebecca Annah Anderson b. Jan 6, 1698/99 d. Aug 13, 1785 Rowan Co., NC [she is the sister of my direct line]", but it should read: "John SMITH b. 1697 Hopewell Twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ d. 1751 Swearing Creek, Anson (later Rowan) Co., NC,m. Rebecca Annah Anderson b. Jan 6, 1698/99 d. Aug 12, 1785 Swearing Creek, Anson Co.(later Rowan), NC"
Thomas b. 1677 did have a son Thomas, b. 1698, who m. Ruth STOUT b. 1706, and they had three children,Thomas, John and James. The son John b. 1697, who married Rebecca, was Thomas 1677's second child.
And, yes, we are all working with you on the Sarah FOSTER conundrum. Incidentally, from which of Rebecca's (eleven by my count) siblings do you descend?
Hoping to hear from you,
your cousin Gary in Berkeley
