Dear George,
Delighted to see your message, it is a surprise for me also to hear that there are Gacquins in New Jersey that I did not know of. There was a cousin of mine a Catholic priest in the town of Montague, New Jersey until his death in 1996. His name was Rev. James Gacquin.
If you look up some of the items I posted to this forum some time back entitled 'Information on the Gacquin Family ' you will get an introduction to our branch of the family. It is interesting that your grandfather was called Daniel Gacquin as there is a person of that name recorded on a tombstone in Dysart Cemetery, Co Roscommon Irelandas having died in 1761. There could be a link there? Most Gacquin families have the name Denis is this the case in your family?
I would like to know more of your family and their origin. Are they linked back to Ireland or some other part of Europe. Over the years I have located families of Gacquins in the nineteenth century in particular and then loose all trace of them. Your family could be descended from one such family. There are also many versions of the name in use today. In Ireland all use the spelling Gacquin but many of our U.S. cousins use the spelling Gaquin while some of those in England use Gaughwin and Gauckwin etc. I look forward to hearing from you on this subject.
Sincerely,
William Gacquin
