Charles Gabriel
CRUSHED BY FALL OF SLATE
Charles Gabriel was instantly killed by a fall of slate while at work in mine No. 3 at Luhrig Wednesday afternoon of last week. His partner, William Williams was also caught by the same fall but not seriously hurt. Gabriel and Williams were at work taking out "rooster coal" which is considered the most dangerous work in the mine and for which considerable better wages are paid. They were working under what proved to be a soapstone pocket and without any proceptable warning many tons of slate broke lose with the above mentioned result.
Charles Gabriel the unfortunate victim of the fall was the son of William Gabriel who lives near Union church. He was a popular and hightly respected young man as was evidunced by the large concourse of people who attended his funeral Friday at 10 o'clock at the Union Church.
