I may have additional information about the family of Barnabas Gable in Greene County, Tennessee. Barnabas was one of several children born to Wilhelm and Elisabeth Farmer Gobell. Their births are recorded in the book of Berks County, PA, births by John Humphrey.

The wife of Barnabas, Elizabeth Kocher, is probably the daughter of Magadelene Kocher and George Kocher of Penn Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. (Penn Tonship would now be in Carbon County.)

Elizabeth Kocher had one younger brother, also named George Kocher. These children's father, and Magadelene's husband, died in September of 1780 prior to the birth of George on December 9, 1780. George, the father, died fighting the Indians in the Neskopeck Valley toward the end of the Revolutionary War.

George Kocher, the son, also came to Greene County where he married Susannah Meyer, daughter of John Meyer and Catherine Gable, sister of Barnabas.

Somewhere in all of the moves, the name of Kocher became Koher, Cocher, or Coher. Cohen can easily be a misreading of Coher or Cocher.

The father of John Meyer was William Meyer. John had at least one brother, George, perhaps other siblings.

Both a John Meyer and a Thomas Gable registered their land in the eastern part of Greene County with the state of North Carolina. John Meyer was in Greene County about 1791.

William Gobell, father of Barnabas, Thomas, Catherine, and
others, died about 1775 in Northampton County, PA. Thomas Farmer administered the estate. William Gobell also lived in Penn Township with the Kochers.

I have a copy of the birth record of George Kocher, but I have not yet found one for Elizabeth.

It is interesting to note that Barnabas and Elizabeth named one of their sons George Cocher Gable.

The George Kocher (or Koher) who married Susannah Meyer (or Miers/Myers) is my 3 greats grandfather. He came to Texas before Texas became a state and is listed as a citizen of the Republic of Texas.
