Lisa: I looked in my Wilkinson County Historical Collection book by Jos. T. Maddox and could not see any reference to the ancestors of William Whitaker or his wife. I did find some clues: The 1830 census mentions only one Murkison, that's Polly Murkison. The 1840 census shows William Murkison. So William or Polly might be the ancestor of Anne Elizabeth. In the 1820 census there were only two Whitakers mentioned: Bartley and Sanford. I found mention of the will of Wm. W. Whitaker of 1874. It says he died in 1875. His wife was listed as Anne E. Murkison and sons were James Mason (married Georgia Walker), and John Benjamin, and Nathan Davis (died young). Daughters were Nancy Jane (married Joel I. Fordham), and Ardilla Elizabeth (married Bryant Wynn). I hope this helps you in some way.
