There was a J D Smith who registrated for the WWI draft in Wilcox County Ga on Sept 12, 1918; dod March 8, 1873;
nearest relative looks like O L Smith of Abbeville, Ga.Under comments is written "old pistol shor wound throught right knee". This O L Smith may be the Oswell Lee Smith who registrated there. His dob was Oct 3, 1879; deputy sheriff; right leg been broken below knee.

What were the names of James D Smith's children? There are several Jameses, JDs on the 1920 census that is a possibility.
