Lora Goodwin, age 87, died peacefully early Saturday morning, June 18, 2005, at the Hospice of the Golden Isles.
Mrs. Goodwin, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N.L. Teagle, was born in Wilcox County in 1917 and had lived in Brunswick since 1942. She was one of the few surviving employees of the original A.J. Jones Construction Shipyard. Above all, she was a devoted wife and beloved mother. She was a blessed fifth-living-generation grandmother.
Mrs. Goodwin was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, C.C. Goodwin, and a son-in-law, Ron Legowik. Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin were faithful members of Bible Baptist Church for 19 years. Mrs. Goodwin was a member of the Roses' Sunday School Class, and they were lovingly known as the "Paps and Granny" of the Bible Baptist Church congregation.
She is survived by four loving daughters and three devoted sons-in-law, Marie Legowik, Lucy and Ed Smith, Ramona and Clyde Evans and June and Carl Hamilton, all of Brunswick. She has nine living grandchildren and one deceased, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Emmie Turk of Rochelle, Ga., and many dear and loving nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bible Baptist Church with her Pastor, Mike Landrum, and Pastor Charles Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Randy McDonald, Keith Godwin, Brit Godwin, Clay Evans, Jeff Hamilton and Phillip Evans.
Special honorary pallbearers will be two other grandsons, Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Alan Smith, on active duty in Kuwait, and Lt. Brandon Sellers, serving with the U.S. Navy in San Diego.
The Roses' Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
The family suggests that those wishing, in lieu of flowers, make memorial contributions to the Bible Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
