Good morning Kay. It is good to hear from a relative, no matter how far removed. I have learned a lot about Jahial, however there are almost as many questions unanswered as are answered.
Jahial and Rachel moved to Arkansas about 1885, evidently to be close to his daughter, Milly, and possible a son, John P. They were both living in the area in the 1900 census, Milly in Van Buren County, and John in Benton County.
There is evidence that Rachel continued to live in the area, probably until her death in the early 1900's. She applied for veterans benefits based on Jahial's involvment in the indian wars of abt 1834. John Thomas Graham, Milly's Husband, singed the application as a witness. Jahial died 01 Mar 1887, ?Conway Co.?, AR according to the information on the application.
Three or four years ago I received information that some descendants in Georgia had letters written by Rachel
from Arkansas to Georgia relatives; however, I somehow lost the source of this information.
Do you or any other reader know of such letters. I would love to have copies. Sincerely, Bruce Simpson (email@example.com)
