Keziah BACON - 1824 - before and after
Posted by: Gary W. Cooper (ID *****5776) Date: August 11, 2003 at 11:37:46

Does anyone have anything on this Keziah BACON:

BIBB COUNTY GEORGIA DEED ABSTRACTS - Page 163

Bibb Co. GA 13 Jul 1824
Grantor: James HAMMOCK of Bibb Co. GA
Grantee: Elsey HAMMOCK of Bibb Co. GA
$50, Lot 179, 50 acres, 3rd Dist. Houston Co, now Bibb Co. containing eastern part of track joining Lot 206 where Lydeal BACON lives and being the same where Harrison HAMMOCK now lives.
Signed: James (X) HAMMOCK
Witnesses: Harrison (X) HAMMOCK, Keziah BACON, Lyddal BACON, J.P.

The Lyddal BACON mentioned is apparently my g-g-grandfather, who did J.P. work in several GA counties, and was appointed J.P. of Stewart County in 1841, by the Governor.

There is a Keziah BACON in Stewart Co. listed as age 40 in the 1850 census, and as the spouse of Benjamin GARRETT. Their marriage is recorded in Stewart County in 1841, where she is listed as "Kitty". Therefore the Keziah listed on the 1824 deed above may actually be her mother, who has not yet been located in any public records.

If "Kitty" IS Lyddal's daughter, she would be the firstborn child, as the next child in line, was Sarah ("Sallie")b. ca. 1815, followed by Langston, b. ca. 1818, Edmund, Elizabeth, and Martha.

Regards,

Gary
