I totally understand your confusions, Rosina. I have come across quite a few disagreements for members of our Crosby family as well -- most importantly for me is the confusion over the maiden names for my GGrandfather,Henry Crosby's wife, Mary and my GGGrandfather, Aaron Crosby's wife, Mary? I have two names for each with multiple records showing both?
I did want to give you another source for the marriage date I have for your Thomas G. Crosby and Lavinia Hill. The person who contributed all of our Gill and Crosby family records to Aaron Thomas' book, "Thomas Kith and Kin", Mildred Gill, mailed me a copy of records sent to her by Evelyn Dubberly. The Pierce County marriage date I have for them is May 14, 1895.
If your Thomas Crosby died in 1913 0r 1914, he is the brother of my GGrandfather, Henry. There is lots of confustion over the two Thomases in this family. But careful checking of the censuses will define which is which, to whom they were married and when they were born.
The Thomas Crosby who died on Nov. 14, 1914 was the 2nd child of Aaron Crosby and Mary (Cannon I believe, possibly Thornton)born in 1839. Our Henry was the 3rd child born (in 1840). The other is Thomas Mitchell Crosby born in 1847 and a younger brother of Thomas and Henry. If you have not already visited TheCrosbyFamilies@MyFamily.com, you may want to go there. You can view the Crosby Genealogy I put in at that site as well as other Crosby Families. It is a great site for learning about the Crosbys.
If Lavinia was married to either, or both, it was most likely a second marriage in either or both. I show a first marriage to Adelia Smith for Thomas G. Crosby on Feb 10, 1888 - also in Pierce County marriage records and a first marriage for Thomas born in 1839 as Sarah Rebecca Jones. Neither of these Thomases have a children named anything that resembles "Cortland" or "Fleming" in my records?
I have a Cora Mae Crosby who married Riley Allen Gill. I have a General Lee Britten Gill. She is included in the Thomas book. However, I do not have her spouse's name.
This probably has not helped you -- instead brings futher confusion I fear. I wish I had more clear records too. . . Lois
