Hi Jerusha - Your John Rodgers was married to Elizabeth Pike the same day by the same person as my Chesley Rodgers and Risby Hanson. According to census records John and Chesley were similar ages, if I recall. I think John and Chesley were cousins and it was a double wedding. Chesley was working for his uncle in Walton county at the time. The Rodgers family was from Edgefield, SC. going back to the early 1800's and William Rodgers, Chesley's father (if I remember) was reportedly from NC. A brother of his also settled in Edgefield - James Rodgers. I can't remember the name of John Rodgers' father off the top of my head right now - whether it was James Rodgers or yet another Rodgers brother. I've been trying to track Risby Hansen's origins. She was also born in SC, but there had to be a reason she was in Walton Co. GA at the time of her marriage, and I've wondered if she was the daughter of one of about three Hansons living in the area at the time. I need to search wills and land records for Walton County, but the State of Georgia has recently decided not to fund opening of the archives to the public for any time other than by appointment on the weekends. Hope this information helps.
