Howdy Cousin!
Old post but I thought I'd respond just to get the information out there. George W. Carter is my 3rd great grandfather. In my research it appears that Robert G. Carter (b.1791, VA ; d.1870, Oglethorpe County, GA) was his father. The father of Robert G. Carter was Charles Carter (b.1752, Goochland County, VA ; d.1842, Oglethorpe County, GA). Charles Carter was a Revolutionary War veteran. Charles' father was Thomas Carter (b. abt 1725 ; d.abt 1795, Mecklenburg County, VA).
