I don't have any information on your Mary D. Whitley, but I do have Whitleys in Walton County. My 2nd great grandmother Mary Lou Whitley was born in Oct 1857 and died 8 Jul 1943 in Walton County, GA. Her father, Nathan Whitley, was born in 1827 in Georgia. He married Almira Cleghorn on 27 Dec 1848 in Newton County, GA. By 1860 he began to appear on the US Census returns for Walton County, GA. Nathan and Almira had 5 children: 1) Mary Lou, 2) George W. (b. abt 1861), 3) Luella (b. abt 1866), Maggie (b. abt 1868), and Melvina (b. abt 1873).

Nathan's father, also named Nathan, was born in 1798 in Beaufort, South Carolina and died in 1867 in Walker County, GA. Nathan, Sr. married Frances M. Lindsey (b. 1802 in Georgia). Nathan and Frances had 8 children: 1) Elizabeth (b. abt 1820), 2) Tirenia (b. 1822), 3) Eusebia (b. 1824), 4) Nathan (b. 1827), 5) David Johnston (b. 1829), 6) Nancy Francis (b. 1832), 7) Martin (b. 1837), and Philo Wildman (b. 1840).
