This is my great grand mother.

Athens Banner Herald, Athens, GA
DOD: December 21, 1952

EPPS Services
Are Held Today

Mrs. Annie Lee Herman* (HERNDON) Epps, 87, died here Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. D. Couch, following an extended illness.

Funeral services ere were conducted today at one o’clock at the Mars Hill Baptist church in Oconee County, Rev. T. R. Harvill, pastor of Prince Avenue Baptist church, officiating. Interment was in the Mars Hill churchyard.

Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Early, T. J., Charlie, Gene and Junior Epps and Elton Shelton.

A native of Walton county, Mrs. Epps was a member of the Herndon family, long-prominent in the business, social and civic affairs of Social Circle, GA. She was the widow of Early Epps, a native of Oconee county.

For the past several years Mrs. Epps had not maintained a home but has divided her time among the members of her family, spending a portion of each year with each of her three children. She had been at the home of her daughter, the former Lucy Epps, here for the past several months.

Although Mrs. Epps had been in failing health for several years, she consistently remained in good spirits and was able to greet her many friends with a warm smile until the day before her unexpected death.

Surviving, other than Mrs. Couch, are another daughter, Mrs. G. W. Evans of Logansville, GA; one son, Oscar Epps, Athens, Route 1; 18 grandchildren and several great – grandchildren.

Note from Connie Epps Bond: January 3, 2007
I am the great grand daughter of Anna “Annie” Lee Herndon and E. O. “Early Oscar Epps”.
Anna Lee Herndon Epps, daughter of Egbert Monroe Herndon and Frances Lewis Herndon (Morgan Co., GA census 1860), living next door to Aaron Lewis.

(Morgan Co., Ga census 1870, found Henderson, Egbert and family living next door to Aaron Lewis- The writing in the census looks like Henderson, but it is Herndon. 1870 Aaron Lewis age 65 birth NC
Lewis, Aaron 65 M W farmer 420, NC
Lewis, Elizabeth 65 F W keeping house, GA
Lewis, George J 21 M W farm laborer GA

1089 ***Herndon, Egbert 36 M W GA
Herndon, Frances C 33 F W keeping house, GA
Thomas 4 M W
Anna Lee 2 F W

*** I found this in a search of Herndon, but in looking next door to Aaron I saw these names and transcribed the last name as Henderson (and looking at it it looks like Henderson), but I believe in my heart is is actually Egbert Herndon. I also found in some of the Morgan Co tax records the name spelled Edgar.

E O Epps passed away in 1907 and I’ve not yet found an obit for him. In the 1900 GA Census, Annie & EO were living with Thomas North Epps (Oconee Co.,GA). Anna “Annie” Lee Herndon Epps lived among her children.
