John Reece family

I am interested in corresponding with descendents of Peter Reese, Jr. and Rachel Anderson.

I am descended from Jacob Reese and Susan Harris. Jacob appears to have been a brother of Peter Reese, Jr.

Peter and Rachel probably were the parents of three children: John Reese, Mary Reese and Robert Reese

That belief is based on a variety of records, including lottery draws by the orphans (unnamed) of Peter Reese and the fact that those lands were later sold by John (of Union Co.), Mary and Robert Reese.

Jacob Reese is often listed as the father of John Reece of Union County, Georgia, but that is not correct - while Jacob had several daughters, he had only one legitimate son, Absalom (based on Eastern Cherokee Applications and other records).

It is possible that Jacob fathered two illegitimate children late in life - but that also is not proven. If so, they lived in Gilmer County, Georgia.

John Reese (Reece) was born about 1809 or 1810 in Pendleton District, SC, and later lived in Union County, Georgia. He was the ancestor of the noted poet Byron Herbert Reece.

I believe Robert Reese was the same person who married Emily Gregory in 1844 in Cherokee County, Georgia, but have not proved that.

If so, that Robert Reese was in Cherokee Co., Georgia in 1850; in Marshall Co., Alabama, by 1860, and in Lee Co., Mississippi, by 1870.

Mary Reese appears to be the same Mary Reese who married John H. Johnson in Forsyth Co., Georgia in the 1830s.

I cannot say that I have proven this family with 100% certainty, and would appreciate any documentation supporting (or disproving) these assumptions.
