Methvin died at his home near this place, Friday, September 23, buried in Balls Church Cemetery in Wilkinson County. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Naomi Methvin and 2 small children, 3 sisters, MIss Gertrude Methvin and Mrs. S. W. Hatfield of Wilkinson County, Mrs. Jennie Hughes of Carrollton, GA, 2 brothers, Reverend John Methvin of Oklahoma, W. K. Methvin of Dudley. Mr. Methvin was born February 8, 1856, in the house now occupied by Mr. E. L. Self in this place. His parents moved to Wilkinson County when he was a boy. Because of his long illness, his widow and children are left in destitued curcumstances. Page 24 March 11, 1911 Reverend W. K. Methvin, age 72, died at his home in Dublin last Sunday, a native of Twiggs County. He moved to Laurens County, Dudley, 18 years ago, moved to Dublin a few weeks age to live with stepson, Mr. S. Tilden Hall. First wife, MIss Julia Chambers, daughter of Mr. W. I. Chambers of Wilkinson County; last wife, Mrs. B. Hall, who survives, 4 sons: Thomas C. Methvin of Dexter, Editor Claude M. Methvin of Eastman, Mr. O. R. Methvin of Hawkinsville and Master Glover Methvin of this place. Daughters: Mrs. J. G. Johnston of Forsyth, Mrs. R. A. Williams of Summit, Mrs T. B. Brown of Graymont, and Misses Julia and Willie Methvin of this place; one brother, Mr. J. J. Methvin of Oklahoma, 3 sisters,Miss Gertrude Methvin or this place, Mrs. Sam Hatfield of Wilkinson County, Mrs Jennie Hughes of Carrollton. He was a Confederate Soldier, Co. D, 57th GA Regt. A number of members of Camp Smith were Honorary Pallbearers. Pallbearers were Messrs. J. F. Rutland, R. D. Dixon, A. R. Arnau, A. M. Johson, T. J. Blackshear, and Captain Hardy Smith. He was a CSA veteran, lawyer and school teacher, President of Gainesville College and Butler FC. William Kelly Methvin, born February 10, 1839 in Jeffersonville, Georgia, died February 26, 1911 in Dublin, Georgia. He joined the church at age 12 at Old Ball's Church, five miles from Jefferson (probably Jeffersonville),Georgia. He was a CSA veteran, Lt., CO D, 57th Georgia Regiment; married May 1, 1862 at Irwinton, Georgia to Julia Chambers; was a Colporteur for the Conference. _______________________________ From Wilkinson County Historical Collections by Maddox (always verfiy this info -- there are some mistakes in this book) He states John Methvin, b. 1811, was the son of Thomas Methvin. Also states that John Methvin's first wife was Mourning Glover, dau of Kelly Glover. His second wife was Mary Ann Manson, dau of James and Margaret Manson.
