Just read the 2009 updated version of the Military for the Civil War. This time John Porter is left off the list completely. I know he and his two older brothers enlisted 9 July 1861 at Antioch. No record of John Porter after that. jAccording to the journal kept by Capt. U. Allen they all left by train for Richmond, VA to be musteed in. David A. and James made it to VA, however James was too sick to be officially mustered in. Both of them died in VA. There is no record of John Porter being buried in Troup Co., GA, he was never mustered in and his family never heard from him again. I presume he died somewhere between Antioch, GA and Richmond, VA.
