Ovid Gilbert

I am researching Ovid Gilbert, who is listed in the 1900 Census. Gilbert was, at that time, a 34-year old widower, and lived at 301 Broad Street. By profession he was an umbrella maker. Gilbert showed up several times in Kingstree SC, primarily on fishing trips. By 1920 he had built a hut in the swamp by Blaek River. In December of 1926, Gilbert was murdered by unknown person or persons. He was beheaded, but only the head was located. His body was never recovered. His dog was apparently killed also. I would like to get more information about Ovid Gilbert.
