William J. Brooks, born in 1832 somewhere in GA, married Mary Jane Swanson in Troup County in 1854. They were on the Harris censuses in 1870 and 1880. They had a son William, born in the 1850's who is lost to genealogists. Where was this family in 1860?

Joseph Hiram Brooks, born somewhere in GA in 1840 married Martha Sandal Daniel in Harris County in 1870. He moved on to Randolph Co., AL and later to Cullman.

Are William J. and Joseph Hiram brothers? A Hiram Brooks on the 1850 Jasper Co., GA census had a William born in 1832 and a Joseph born in 1840. Where was Joseph Hiram in 1860? The mother of these children, Elizabeth Jackson, had died before 1850, and Hiram remarried a widow, Caroline McMichael Roberts.

William J. had a son Joseph H. born in 1863 who also moved to Roanoke, AL. The other children moved into Chambers Co., AL.
