William Smith family in 1840 census

My 3rd great-grandfather, William Wynn Smith, was born in N.C. or S.C. in 1809, but was in Troup County, GA in 1840, according to census. His father, William Smith's family was also there. I have followed William Wynn and Mary Bostick Smith (my 3rd g grandparents) from Troup County, GA, into Tallapoosa County, AL around 1843. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. I have very little information on them prior to AL.
