James Pitts (b. 1780 in Newberry, S. C. d. 1836 in Troup
Co. GA) and Keziah Johnston Pitts came to Troup Co. from
Jones Co., GA. before 1830. After Keziah's death, James married Elizabeth Whatley, dau. of Archie Whatley, also of Troup Co. in 1831.
Several years ago, I read in a post that James Pitts was
reported to be the out of wedlock son of Isaac Simmons of
Madison Co, GA. Does anyone have further information on the
biological parents of James and who might have raised him
giving him the name Pitts?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
