TOWNS COUNTY SESQUICENTENNIAL PROGRAMS

The Towns County Historical Society invites you to participate in the upcoming programs in observance of the sesquicentennial

On Saturday, Oct. 21, a pontoon boat trip to the Old Burch Cemetery located on an island in Lake Chatuge is scheduled. The group will gather at 10:00 a.m. at the Fieldstone (Ridges) boat building beside the Yacht Club. Bring a bag lunch. Cost will be $5.00 to cover cost of gas and rental of boat. Call 706-896-5952 to reserve space on the boat.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, at 2:00 p.m. Towns County historian Jerry A. Taylor will present a program on the pioneer families of Brasstown Valley and the founding of Young Harris College. The program will be held in Susan B. Harris Chapel, the oldest building at Young Harris College.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, at 5:00 p.m., a “Tellabration” event will be held in cooperation with local storytellers, Earl Key, Mark Johnston, Bill Jefferson, Bill Canady, and Tracy Walker. They will tell stories reflecting the decades of the 1850s to 2000. Folk music appropriate to the eras will recall days gone by. Music will be provided by the OASIS Folk Band under the direction of Jennifer Cordier. It promises to be an exciting event for the whole family.
This event will be held in the Towns County Schools auditorium. Ticket prices will be $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students with a $15.00 maximum for a family. Proceeds go to the Sunny D Children's Theater Workshops.
