I am looking for information on a man named James Elijah Roach and his wife Sarah. I know very little about either of them. I know that they were both born around 1837. James Elijah and Sarah were married by 1860. They are found in 1860 census for Walker County GA. Around this time James entered the Confederate army, he was a member of Company H 23d Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry Army of Tennessee.. According to the Clay County NC census of 1880 he was born in SC, it also says that his father was born in SC and his mother was from Ireland. In this census he it is said that he is a County Jailer. I am not sure what county he was a jailer for; he could have been a Jailer for Clay County NC, Towns County GA, or Union County GA. Four children are listed in the 1880 census: Charles Rice, Lilly A, Pinky, and William Lee. After Sarah’s death, sometime before 1910, James Elijah went on and married twice more. He was married to a widow named Eugenie L Wood in the 1910 census of Towns County Ga. In the 1920 census of Towns County he was married to a woman named Nora, they had two sons named Dock and Baylor. The only other thing I know is that James might mainly went by his middle name Elijah. James is buried at Osborne Cemetery in Towns County GA. Notify Administrator about this message?
