I wish I had an answer for you regarding the Patton/Towns County connection. My great great grandfather was Joseph Patton Garrett. It is my understanding that the name Patton is sprinkled through both my Garrett and Stroud lines which came out of North Carolina. I believe that they may have been in Burke County. I know that very early on Burke covered a great deal of land including what is now Mitchell and Yancey Counties. Since Buncombe is next to Yancey, there is a possibility that they all were relatively close together. If you ever find out, I would be interested. If I find out I will come back to this forum and look you up.
