Jas. F. Benton Dead
We have just learned of the death
of James F. Benton, a native of old
Colleton, who died at Reidsville, Ga.,
on May 7, 1907, of paralysis, in his
86th year. He married Miss Caro-
lina Bunton, of Colleton, who pre-
deceased him many years.
A man of many fine qualities of
head and heart, and he lived and died
a consistent member of the Metho-
dist church. In the year 1854, when
Motley and Blackledge were hung
here, he was a member of the God-
frey Savannah Company, encamped
here with the 13th Regiment of
Militia, and later was a faithful con-
federate veteran. He had been
living in Georgia some 30 years or
more.
