Looking for Burney Family Bible

Pauline Burney Brightman knew the marriages of my Forbes and Mills ancestors to the Burney sisters Jane, Lucy, and Catherine, all daughters of Richard Burney. Richard's children were Willis, Ellis, Harris, Jane, Lucy, and Mary. Jane Burney Gordon, widow, married Stephen Mills of Screven Co, GA. Lucy Burney married Wesley Forbes, originally of Pitt Co, NC. Catherine Burney married Wesley's brother Enoch Forbes; after his 1813 death in Putnam Co, GA, she married Lemuel B. Skaggs. Mary Burney married John Robinson, who died in Jasper Co, GA.

Jane Burney Gordon Mills married her cousin Arthur Burney in Jefferson, FL, after the 1827 death of her husband Stephen Mills. Lucy Burney Forbes evidently died after the 1830 Leon, FL, census. Both were my fourth great grandmothers since Jane's son Thomas Mills married Lucy's daughter Eliza Jane Forbes.

Oddly, Ms. Brightman did not know the names of the wives of Willis, Ellis, and Harris. It is my belief that she obtained her information about the husbands of the daughters from a family bible since the spelling suggests as much. When I found Ms. Brightman's book, the Mills and Forbes lines opened completely, and all of the names I had been seeing on documents from Georgia to Florida made sense. I have, however, never seen a document with Lucy's name on it.

If anyone has heard of a family bible for this line--or any other source of the marriages--I will greatly appreciate any information you can give me. I have contacted Ms. Brightman's lawyer and both of us have contacted the person to whom Ms. Brightman entrusted her research. He has never responded to our inquiries.

Thank you,

Sharon Dean Lee
