I am trying to determine the origins of the George and Abigail Waters family that started in Thomas Co., GA before 1840, moved to Dale Co., AL and then some went back to Mitchell Co., GA.

George and Abigail's daughter Catherine WATERS md. David N. DAVIS in Thomas Co. in 1838 and there is a Georg (sic) WATERS in Thomas Co. in 1840. By 1850, George and Abigail have moved to Dale Co., AL (like many SW GA families from Mitchell and Thomas Counties). Listed with them in their family are their daughters, Catherine (listed by her maiden name) and Elizabeth, and Catherine's two oldest children, [Andrew] Jackson and Angeline DAVIS. We have no idea where her husband David N. DAVIS is, as he is never again seen in the census.

Catherine eventually moves back to Mitchell Co. and has two other children (presumably with David DAVIS), Avie and George Washington. Elizabeth marries Benjamin TOMLIN or THOMLEY (prob. in Dale Co., AL) and has three children: Frances A.A., W.B., and E.A. Elizabeth's mother Abigail is living with them as a widow in 1870 in Dale Co., George WATERS apparently having died some time between 1850 and 1870.

I have often wondered if the John WATERS who marries Susan Ann "Sookey" HALL is a son of this George. Can anyone confirm this? John and Susan had 9 children born in AL.

I would love to correspond with anyone with information that could help me clarify the picture of this family in GA and AL. I'm certain that George and Abigail had other older children as well. Please contact me via this forum or at
