Hi....I may be going out on a limb here, but on the 1870 census for Terrell County, my great great grandparents and family were listed as Jones, and they came out of South Carolina. On the 1880, they were listed as Whearry.....I have been led to believe that they could have been from the York or Chester County areas of SC, brought to Georgia as slaves, and after the emancipation, changed their name to Whearry from Jones.

My Great grandfather George Williams is proving to be a hard one to track before 1880.....he married Darcas (Jones) Whearry in 1879 in Dawson. He was born into slavery, but other than the fact that his mother's name was Martha, we have no information prior to 1880.

Any slave information or mention in any of your Jones or Williams lines could possibly be of help.

Thanks, and good luck in your searches too!
Yolanda
