I picked the Terrell Co. library as a Depository for my 26 years of research-after carefully checking with them on how it was to be displayed, preserved etc. I went so far as to put them in my will for the disposition of my large collection of Genealogy books. I took 35 notebooks-by surname- on my first trip, and a multitude of miss. materlal.....including originals of family pictures owned by my deceased Mother, and me. I had given my relatives- a first chance at the originals, and would have donated a COPY, as I did in others. A year later, I was surprised, but not terrably upset to find that nothing had been PUT OUT YET. I know cataloging takes time. At that time, I deposited another truck full of material. A few months later, I was SHOCKED to find that months ago-at that time....someone had gone through my material and GIVEN SELECTED SECTIONS OF IT AWAY, by contating people in a several state area. Relatives of mine were SEARCHED OUT-and given my pictures etc. When I contacted the library- and Frances P Messer, Regional Director-I was informed that their policy is to do whatever they choose with it, once it is given. (Never mind what they verbally AGREED TO DO) Be careful what you put there-if you actually want it to reach the public. Ms. Gerry Hill- Albany Ga.
