I know this branch of the family well, as "Clint" (Nathan Clinton Bruce) was my grandfather. I also know your cousin Sam Brown well. I saw him at a funeral just a couple of months ago.

I heard the story you relate about the death of my great-grandfather the other way around. That is, I heard that the man who killed Sam Anthony Bruce had been making advances towards Sam Anthony Bruce's daughter, and got to his pistol first when S.A.B. came to do something about it. I never have heard the part about anyone being "with child."

There is at least one other version of the tale, a "G" rated version that was made up to tell the little kids at the time.
