According to "History of Griffin, GA. 1840-1940" by Quimby MELTON, Jr., Lewis Lawrence GRIFFIN was born in SC. 3 Oct 1794 the son of Wm. and Rachel EVANS GRIFFIN. He was the son of Peter and Elizabeth OWENS GRIFFIN. In early 1800s, Wm's widow moved her large family from SC. to Twiggs. Co., GA.

Lewis L. GRIFFIN's brother was Eli Shorter GRIFFIN who died in Twiggs Co. GA. and left a large family including Lewis Lawrence GRIFFIN (4 years old) who was adopted by L.L. GRIFFIN and his wife.
