Taylor/Spell/Grantham/Dawdy or Dowdy Families
Posted by: Jane Hawthorne (ID *****8370) Date: August 01, 2010 at 06:26:17

There is a deed of record dated December 21st or 31st, 1849, in Screven County where John Taylor,William Taylor and Mary Spell of Screven Co; Willis Taylor of Crawford Co;
Thomas Grantham, George Dawdy, Clary Spell and William Spell of Wayne County sell 20 acres of land to John C Freeman. I am assuming these folks are part of the same family but who are they and how are they related? I am fairly certain that this Willis Taylor is my 2x great grandfather.

Willis Taylor married Emila Avera but not sure when or where but I do have a bible record that they are the parents of my great grandmother, Nancy Taylor, who was born in Screven County on June 8, 1820. Before the 1840 census they were in Crawford County where they lived the remainder of their lives.

I also know that Mary Spell married Thomas West in Screven County in 1850. And on March 21, 1848, Benjamin Taylor made a "deed of gift" to Mary Spell. There is relationship specified between Benjamin and Mary. Who is Benjamin Taylor?

Any help in unraveling these families would be greatly appreciated.

Jane
