Just recently went to this area for a little R & R and my genealogy kicked in when my husband and I was out riding the back roads in his new jeep. Anyway we came upon teh McClain cemetery that located near Lake Burton. It is off the beaten path. According to the marker this is the information on the cemetery:
" On Jan. 6, 1843 Capt. John McClain deeded a section of his farm in Rabun County for a McClain Family Cemetery & Public Burying Grounds. As a result of the flooding from Lake Burton's Reservoir, this cemetery was moved in 1917 to it's present location on the Arrendale Farm. The Ole McClain Cemetery is now in the ownership of the McClain Family and Governed by the State of GA"
Erected 1992 by Mrs. Gertrude McClain Dobson.
This is a very beautiful and well cared for cemetery. I took a few pictures and will be glad to share with anyone on the McClain line. Other McClain names are Capt. Martin Vann Buren McClain CSA soldier
Pvt. Miles McClain, CSA soldier.
Just wanted to share with anyone who might be researching this name.
