I have a photograph taken at my GG-Aunt Arrovia [Smith] Mullinax's home in Polk Co Ga. There are 38 people in this photo - all unidentified. 19 of them appear to be 50+ years old. On the back of this photo it says "To Aunt Alice from H_rms__ & Corrie Carter made July 30th 1939 at Aunt Rovia's at the reunion. Corrie Carter"
"Aunt Alice" is my G-g/mother Alice Idonia [Smith] Crabb and "Aunt Rovia" is her next oldest sister. They were the 9th and 10th children of James D. SMITH & Mary Elizabeth [SHAW] who married 17 Nov 1850 in Elbert Co Ga.
The other SMITH children were: Sarah Jane, William Washington, James Henry, Susan Frances, Kathrine "Aunt Kate", Mary Elizabeth, Tom Burton, John Gibson, and Lillian Doveye. These children were all born between 1851-1877.
Alice Idonia [Smith] (1875-1940) married Charles White Crabb 1890 in Polk Co Ga and Arrovia [Smith] (1872-1951) married T.R. Mullinax.
Family Bible gives names & birthdates of all 11 children, marriage date James D. Smith & Elizabeth [Shaw], and the birthdate of Mary Elizabeth [Shaw] Smith as 24 Dec 1835.
UNPROVEN at this time but fits "circumstantially" that 2g-g/m Mary Elizabeth [Shaw] Smith was the daughter of Robert Washington Shaw & Martha [Ashley] originally of Abbeville SC, in Elbert Co Ga 1850, and 1860+ in Cherokee Co Al.
I know nothing more about 2g-g/f James D. Smith but he might have been a son/nephew of Mrs Fathy [maiden name?] Smith shown as a widow on the 1850 Cherokee Co Al census.......? Fathy 2m William Redding 1857 in Polk Co Ga. Fathy is not PROVEN as any kin yet - just conjecture now.
............if you think you can identify anyone in this photograph, I will happily send you a scanned copy.
