O.K., here goes.....in 1870 there is an M F Niel in Hamilton County Tennessee. Wife Sarah, first two children listed are Dolphius age 13 and Peggy A age 12. These would fit for the Adolphus and Margaret of the 1860 census. There is no Samuel, but if the 1860 ages are right, he would be 16 or so and could have been on his own somewhere. As for the 1880 age for Samuel living with Margaret...if you look closely it seems to me that the 22 may have been rewritten as 27....wishful thinking???? Anyway, that is my latest theory....
