States: Georgia: Oglethorpe
Hi everyone! I am doing research on my husbands family. His surname is Howard and they originally came from Oglethorpe County. We are fairly certain they were at one time slaves of the Howard family and received information that the Howards owned a plantation name "The Glade" There is an Abram Howard that was listed 55 years old in the 1870 census and his son was also named Abram and they would have both been born before slavery was abolished. Abram Howard seniors wifes name was Delsey (We believe Johnson) and Abram Howard Juniors wifes name was Anna Barnett. All of them are listed as either "black" or "mulatto" on the census. What I found interesting is that there were "white" Howard families living next door to "black" Howard families on the 1870 census, and that is something I have not run across in my other research.
I really don't know where to look from this point, and any help would be appreciated!!!!
