John Leftwich, d. 26 February 1797

I hope to be in Oglethorpe County in May 2010 to do some research on my ancestor, Capt. John Leftwich. He was born in Virginia, moved to GA about 1785 and died in Oglethorpe County in 1797. I hope to find land records and possibly see the area where he lived, locate birth records for his children, find his burial place and many other pieces of the puzzle. I had hoped to find a local genealogical society to work with in the next few months but I don't see one online. Can anyone suggest other online and local sources of help?
