Though I realize these postings are old, I have just discovered them, so I hope you discover my posting. I am descended from Jesse Martin and Elizabeth Thomas through Hezekiah and Mary Wingfield’s son, James Thomas Martin, and I have been researching this family for the last 15 years. I have a file of records on Jesse which I can send as an e-mail attachment, I think. I would like to swap information with all of you, and I am so pleased to find a descendant of George H. I lost George H. and Charles W. Martin during the Civil War. James Thomas Martin moved to Beaverdam District when he married Sarah (Sally) Buzbin in 1839 and lived among her family, who were Swiss Palatines from South Carolina. Beaverdam was part of Oglethorpe County but boundaries changed and it became part of Madison County. James Thomas died in 1869 and the family is buried in the Kidd Cemetery near Beaverdam (the Kidds were related to the Buzbins).
For the record, Jesse Martin and Elizabeth Thomas had the following children which I can fully document. They may have had others.
1. Hezekiah b. ca. 1774, d. 1841; m. (1st) Diana Stratton (2nd) Mary Wingfield
2. Richard b. ca. 1776, d. bef. 1810; m. Susannah Stephens
3. Cornelius b. ca. 1783 d. bef. 1826; m. Elizabeth Wright
4. Lucy b. ca. 1788 d. aft. 1840; m. John Wilhoite
5. Micajah b. ca. 1780 d. 1811; m. “Oney” (Sophronia) Garvin
6. Sarah (Sally) b. ca. 1787 m. (1st) Elisha Herrin (2nd) Thomas Worsham
There is also a James Martin who witnessed Jesse’s will, brokered his second marriage, and moved to Henry County with several of Jesse’s grandchildren, and who is possibly
Two other possible daughters are Susannah Martin, who married George Barnett, and Nancy Martin, who married Rainey Findley. I found evidence that Charles Martin who married Lucy Hopper and John Martin who married Betsy Robertson were apparently not Jesse's.
I have Jesse’s father and grandfather documented, as well as Elizabeth’s parents. If you are interested, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
