Glenda, we have found that a lot of these VAUGHN/VAUGHAN'S were actually really BAUGHN'S/BAUGH'S. We've found a lot of these misspellings going back to the 1600's in Va.
my 3rd greatgrandfather Peyton Baughn is suppose to have been born in Olgethorpe co. Ga. in 1804.
i don't know if this would be your case but it might be worth looking into.
