WHAT TOWN IS LOCATED NOW WEHRE THE OCONEE RIVER FORKED IN THE 1790'S?

Would anyone know the location of where the Oconee River forked in the 1790's. Is it the same location now as it was in the 1790's and is there a town located near that area so I can try and find it on the map?
