“Mr. W. N. ALDREDGE DEAD
“Old Confederate Veteran Buried Sunday Afternoon.
“Mr. William H. [or N.?] ALDRIDGE, aged 61 years, died at his residence, No. 1602 First avenue, Saturday night at ten o’clock, after an illness of six days of dysentery. Mr. ALDRIDGE is survived by four sons and three daughters. He was a member of the Baptist church. During the war of the secession, he was a member of Co. B, First Alabama volunteer engineer corps, and served with the Army of Northern Virginia. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. C. HURLEY at the residence, Sunday afternoon at two o’clock. The interment was in the Clapp’s factory cemetery, and the following gentlemen acted as pall bearers: Messrs. W. J. HILL, R. W. SHORT, D. C. MADDEN, W. T. TISON, D. W. GILL and J. C. SAYERS.”

Rev. H. C. HURLEY served the Rose Hill Baptist Church (and perhaps others) in Columbus, GA.
Daniel B. OLDS’ list of death notices from the Columbus newspapers shows Mr. J. K. ALDREDGE, published 10 FEB 1901 in the Enquirer-Sun, but I don’t have the text for that piece.
I am interested in learning more about William’s background and family connections, as well as the identities of his pallbearers. Thanks – John in TX
