Daniel & Barbary Smith / Brown / before 1860

I'm trying to determine the ancestry of two families, that of Daniel and Barbary Smith and also of their daughter who married a Brown in the 1830s. The Smith family mostly moved to Murray Co., Ga. prior to 1850. The two Brown parents had children Mary Jane and James b. NC, probably Rowan or Iredell Co. The two Brown parents then apparently died while the two children were very young, and the Brown children were raised by the Daniel Smith household. Mary Jane Brown married David Henderson Hammontree.

Shirley Lawrence commented on this family, saying that Daniel and Barbary had 15 children and that the oldest one married a Brown and had Mary Jane and James. She then hasn't posted since and didn't give the name of the Brown parents. Any help would be greatly appreciated; these are tough surnames to research from a distance!

Here's what I have on the Smith family (names only, I have various census records, etc.):

Daniel Smith b 1785 - 1793
md. Barbary b 1794 - 1799 (prob md before 1822)
Ellen or Catherine b bef 1822, md. a Brown, had children Mary Jane and James; both Brown parents died before 1850
Caleb b 24 Mar 1823, md. Sophia Freeze
James Lawrence b 15 sep 1826, two marriages as you document
Elizabeth b ca 1830
Sarah b ca 1832 md Bryson Howell in 1853
Franklin b ca 1836
Joseph F. b 1837
Nancy b ca 1841 (maybe the Nancy Caroline who was Shirley Lawrence's ancestress?)

Thanks / Tom Gull
